Gum Disease Treatment

Effective Gum Disease Treatment to Have Healthy Gums

Many individuals suffer from gum disease and experience pain and discomfort. Gum disease treatments will depend on the severity or the stage of the disease, how you respond to previous treatments and your health generally. The gum treatments that we offer at our dental office are non-surgical therapies that can control the growth of bacteria on your gums. If the disease is more progressive, Dr. Krieger will refer you to a Periodontist (gum specialist) for more aggressive treatment.

Non-Surgical Gum Disease Treatments

Some of these treatments include the following:

  • Professional Dental Cleaning – During your regular dental check up, your Dr. Krieger or her hygienist, will remove the tartar and plaque from above and at the gum line of your teeth. If Dr. Krieger diagnoses that you have plaque below the gum line, she will recommend root planing and scaling.

  • Root planing and Scaling – This is a non-surgical operation that requires deep cleaning that can be done under local anesthetic. Dr. Krieger or her hygienist will then remove  plaque and tartar that have built up below the gum line. This can also help to smooth those spots on your gum line, thereby removing the bacteria and providing a clean surface for your gums.
